The IAAI continues to proceed! The first pre-beta release of the IAAI Benchmark Library is now available. There are two components: the library itself, in a 20MB ZIP file containing a V5R1 savefile of the library IAAIBL01, and a short PDF document that provides a simple overview of the tool. This is all very preliminary, obviously, and I don't pretend that it's anything like a "professional" benchmark, but I think it's a great start. What I found pretty amazing was that the multi-file SELECT INTO was NOT faster than a simple CHAIN to three files, and in fact was 10 times slower. Even more interesting was that when I changed the SELECT from using a WHERE clause to a JOIN, it took ONE HUNDRED times as long as the simple CHAIN. This is some heady stuff, folks. I hope you all get a chance to mosey on bu the IAAI and take a look at the information, and maybe download the library yourself to test on your machine. Joe http://forums.plutabrothers.com/IAAI
