It's the short form of 'weblog' - a place on the web where you can 'log' *your* 
thoughts and views; links to what *you* find interesting; and other stuff 
related to *you*, that you have found while surfing.

Most recently however, it's been turned into nothing more than a glorified 
on-line diary mechanism.
