I've settled into a monthly IPL routine mostly because it provides a regular time to apply those MF* PTF's that require an IPL. This is also the time we schedule that rare preventative maintenance that requires a power down, like replacing cache batteries. Our users have gotten use to us being down once a month for a little while on a Sunday evening too... I know the IPL itself isn't "required" this often; it is just our window of opportunity for when we do need to take the system off line. Our users have gotten use to the routine and our business allows us to be down Sunday evenings for a little while, this is all good ... <smile> Kenneth -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Al Barsa Sent: Wednesday, June 02, 2004 6:07 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: How often do you IPL? Ken, With our 64 bit architecture, you only need to IPL periodically. For most "normal" software, IPLing with you do cumulative PTF packages is sufficient. The only thing you have to watch out for is running out of addresses.
