Yes you can have both running at the same time.  We do it.  Might be a 
good question for the Domino400 list also hosted here.  But think 'Bind to 
specific address'.

e-mail on iSeries revisited






I could use some help here.  I'm looking to send an e-mail to a user
whenever a particular event occurs (printing a packing list for a customer
requiring a COA).  SNDDST would probably work fine, since it's a very
simple alert message, but we use the Domino server instead of the generic
server, so the CL program can't find the "route SMTP gateway", and the IT
director doesn't think that we can have both running at the same time.
Anyone gone through this?  Thanks in advance.
