I guess I missed the point. I just assumed the questioner was seeking a midrange answer from a midrange list and he was told to move it to the PCTECH list. Was the point. 1) Maybe we should wait before jumping on someone about how their question doesn't belong on the list; 2) or, that if someone is so concerned about reading a topic that doesn't hold their interest maybe they shouldn't be on a list; 3) or, that maybe the way to handle an off topic question is to not reply at all. (I think 8 replies to the original question dealt with it being off topic, which usually seems to be the case); 4) or, that most people don't feel threaten, by someone saying they're going to unsubscribe; 5) or, don't ask a question or reply, unless your willing to be attacked (I have noticed that it seems to be mostly the same people asking questions and replying); 6) or that no one should question anything about the way the list works? I have always found this list to be very helpful and informative and seldom off topic. I have also read about bowling, gas-x, the list's change of direction (April Fools msg), etc that weren't really on topic, but I can live with. Given the other banter that goes on, is the stray COBOL, PC or Java question going to bring the world crashing down? Or should we compound the problem by making a mountain out of a mole hill. I use other list as well and have found over the years that most stay on topic because people don't respond to off topic question, which usually is very effective and less chatty.
