Jan -

There is no reason that I know of why that shouldn't work, however when I
called SL (in July) I specifically asked about that scenario and I was told
that if I did not follow the instructions in APAR II13365 I would be on my
own. Since we were doing a 720 -> 810 hardware upgrade I did not have the
option of going back if it didn't work so I ended up slipping LIC on a
Thursday night and upgrading on Saturday.

Good Luck!

Read info APAR II13365 - SOFTWARE REQUIRED: 800, 810, 825, 870, 890
http://www-912.ibm.com/n_dir/nas4apar.nsf/0c42ed4609a123d486256c1b004c4ea7/9

Specifically, you need to verify the level of LIC on your source system
(Section 1 - 1.a.)
DSPPTF LICPGM(5722999) SELECT(RE02343)
DSPPTF LICPGM(5722999) SELECT(RE03098)

If you are not at the correct level you will need to slip the LIC on your
source system before migrating to the 810.

If you have a 2757 PCI-X Ultra RAID Disk Controller on your 810 you will
not
be able to see any of the drives under it until after the PTFed LIC code
is
installed, the base LIC is not enough. Our CE and I wasted about 4 hours
trying to figure out why the drives wouldn't show up before finishing the
restore and finding that they had magically appeared!
