Saw some interesting comments by Al Karman.
http://www.midrangeserver.com/mso/mso110403-story01.html Was looking for
something else this past week, and ran across this comment
http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200212/msg01036.html so name rang a
bell. (Dag!! Just now noticed I'd flagged Ray Shahan's follow-up for an
immediate reply, but then...;-) Don't know if Al still gets around this
neighborhood much but, if so, thanks for quotes Al!!

"But the complexity of Unix, not to mention what he found to be a lack of
prepackaged distribution applications designed for Unix, did not favor the
open operating system, says Al Karman, Lady Remington's IT director. 'We're
trying desperately to keep being a jewelry company,' he says. 'We're not
that interested in becoming a technology company or becoming a beta site for
Microsoft.'" <snort>

"'Like most of the free world, we run Microsoft on the desktop,' he says.
'But when it comes to the enterprise, I can't with a clear conscience run
Windows...'     <and it get's better, imo...;->

Unfortunately, this wasn't published in Midrange Server's sister-pub, the
"Windows and Linux Edition". (Perhaps comments were too "strong", though
last paragraph is favorable to *nix (AIX flavor).)

Somewhat related question: Does JDA run on both 400 and *nix?? Iirc, I ran
across it a decade ago on 400, but that might have been JBA instead of, or
in addition to. (Anyone who uses a TLA should be treated like a horse
thief, imo...;-)
