>> ILE is not just the iSeries's version of CLI, it is all of IBM's. I think this phrase is at the crux of our disagreement Steve - if indeed we have one. ILE is _not_ any kind of version of CLI and was never intended to be so. In fact it wasn't really intended to be cross platform, although it did embrace some cross platform initiatives (hence the CEE APIs). It was designed to provide (among other things) the kind of high-performance call environment that would enable C and C++ to effectively play on the platform. Certainly there were many other issues addressed within the design, but the primary goal was to have C and other call intensive languages perform well. Period, end of story. It was never intended to provide the same kind of hardware independent capabilities that CLI does. ILE would be the vehicle by which a good performing implementation of CLI could be delivered - just as is provides some underpinnings for Java. But it will never _be_ CLI - it is simply not it's design point. My suggestion to you would be to start canvassing for a CLI implementation on the iSeries. Forget "changing" ILE into something it was never intended to be. IBM to date have placed their bets on Java - Now we need to get to work to get them to implement CLI.
