My first reaction was to question why the ASP2 is mirrored, unless the
entire system is.  Mirroring requires two confirmed writes to disk prior to
moving on to the next write, one for each disk.  Raid does not have the
double write issue.  Thus the potential bottle neck.  You're thought about
using iSeries Navigator to collect the statistics is a great first place to
start.  Use the monitors to watch disk IOP and arm performance.  You could
even set up a trigger event to notifiy you when there is a threshold that
has been crossed.

 Also, you did not discuss what version of the OS you are on.  Can you use
the newer high performance journalling products?
