I wont go into the detailed explanation of why this is so, but I will give you 
the work around that I use.

Define a data structure like the following:
d               e ds                  extname(FILE) prefix(d_) 

Then, in your like statement, refer to d_FIELD. This way, the internal 
definition will be the same as the external one.

This is not the only solution, but it is simple and it works.

If you want more detail as the why and how, I am sure that you can find it in 
the archive.

Help!

I got a file that contains a ZONE decimal field.  I also got a sub-procedure 
that accepts one parm and this parm is declared with the LIKE keyword that 
reference the ZONE field in the file.  The problem is that the compiler keeps 
create the field as pack.  Any idea?
