It is as straight-forward as it says.

Make sure the cards you're putting in are approved for the slots they're
going to. Essentially, the steps are this.

1. Go to SST
2. Option 1, Option 7, Option 1
3. On the frame you are installing the cards on, take option 9.
4. Press F7 to show empties.
5. Do a 3 on the empty slot for your IOP.
6. Make sure it's powered-off (will show on screen as well as no LED lit
next to slot)
7. Insert card.
8. Press F10 to 'power-on domain'
9. Card will come online after 30 sec-2 mins (IOPs take longer than IOAs)
10. Do the same from step 5-9 for your IOA.
11. Assign the IOA to the IOP you just installed (it will bring up a screen
and ask you).

That's it - really pretty easy, no problems with the system hot that I've
come across.

These are the V5R1 abbreviated instructions, no guarantees on them, but they
work for me.

Subject: Hot Plug PCI cards

Does anyone have experience with installing 'hot plug' cards? I've got an
Ethernet card and associated IOP to install in our Model 820. Instructions
say this can be done without powering down the system. Just wondering if
this is as straight-forward as the manual says, or if there are any hidden
surprises to watch out for. TIA.
