Does anyone know where to find the error message explanations for the error
#'s generated by net use ?

A variant is to use

net use * path

This will find the next usable drive letter, starting from Z. But this is 
not convenient in a batch file - I forget how to extract a value out of a 
text file in a DOS batch process. Even geezers forget sometimes!
