Well I view this as a mixed blessing.  There's a (imv, false) "meme" going
'round that one can get by with marginal competence in a large number of
languages.  My experience is that better results can be achieved by an
individual developing an in-depth, very deep, core competence in the
fundamentals of a minimal number of languages (HLL, DML, CL).

Now offering choices to suit the many different individuals preferences is a
good thing.  But there is a view that the programming world would be better
off if We all just moved to Java/SQL solutions, which is false and idn't
gonna happen anyhoo.
