Emulator Transfer Utility was originally written by Joe Frank (now of
Synapse) in the early 1980's and was the first program that allowed transfer
of files from/to an IBM Midrange computer (first the ETU34, then ETU/36,
ETU/38, and now ETU/400). IBM was the first customer. It only works with
emulation products that have the API "hooks" and today that would include
legacy products from Emerald, Andrew, Connectronix, NetSoft, DCA, and
Attachmate. Current emulation products that support the ETU are from either
Synapse (www.synapse.com) or from Nlynx (www.nlynx.com).

ETU is very useful in that it lives in a library (typically PCTRANLIB) on
the AS400 and is therefore AS400 based. Its commands can be embedded in
user written CL or accessed from a menu. Thus a jobstream can create a work
file and then transfer it to a PC.

The PC can be the requestor PC or a PC that is sitting at signon display but
NOT signed on (how's that for security).
