Sure it will be effective. Its not worse than what you were doing before, and what you were doing before was effective. The only possible downside is that it will cause a few more people to write their passwords on the side of the monitor. The other possible meaning of "be effective" is "Will it get the home office guy off the hook with his Auditor people who obviously don't know squat about security?"
