oh sorry, now I know what HTH stands for. as far as the QATOC files goes. The only way I had to use those files was when I upgraded a system and the "boss" wanted the same IP addresses on that system and IBM told me this would do it instead of me having to retype all those IP addresses. IT was the same release so it was no biggy -----Original Message----- From: Scott Klement [mailto:klemscot@klements.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 29, 2003 12:19 PM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: IP Address of AS/400 Machine Just a cautionary note: If you directly access the QATOC* files, you're risking your programs not being forward-compatible. IBM has not stated that these files will always be used for this purpose, or that they're formwats will always be the same. Therefore, I recommend that you use the APIs instead of reading these files directly. Frankly, you should be using DNS for this. Not a host table. Not looking up the IP of an interface. FTP should be using DNS to determine which IP address to use. This is what DNS is for. Also, Steven... HTH stands for "hope that helps", it's not someone's name :) On Wed, 29 Jan 2003, Segars, Steven wrote: > Just an FYI - Your IP addresses are contained in the files QATOC* located in > the QUSRSYS library.
