One of the advantages that you have is that DB2/UDB is "supposed to use standard SQL syntax across all platforms. Therefore, you could write a common SQL statement (complete with DB2 extensions to standard SQL) and then execute it on the AS400 or Win2K (also on AIX Unix). Whether this is an advantage or not is anyone's guess. We use SQLServer in our shop as well as the AS400. You constantly have to think about differences in function when you're writing SQL. For instance, the Substring function has four or five different names depending on the database and the tool being used.
