Sent this as a letter to the Editor/Writer of the article. John Carr http://www.whitehouse.org/index.asp -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt I know this was a few months ago, but .. I wanted to bring a little clarity to the point that the person you quoted made; The MS person said; ---------------------------- <SNIP> Valentine, too, took the opportunity to point out the widespread bugs that have been discovered in competing operating products such as Linux and Unix. "Every operating system out there is about equal in the number of vulnerabilities reported," he said. "We all suck." http://www.infoworld.com/articles/hn/xml/02/09/05/020905hnmssecure.xml <SNIP> -------------------------------- I work on an iSeries (aka AS/400, you know the machine that MS used to run their business) I don't believe that we have the same types or number of vulnerability's that he states. I think it's an attempt to "Bring down to our level" everyone else. Lowest Common Dominator This is a quote written in Your Mag. (Infoworld) about the iSeries ------------------------ As for security, the AS/400e is an object-based system that is inherently difficult to corrupt via hacker attacks or viruses. In fact, no virus has ever been reported in the AS/400e arena. http://www.infoworld.com/articles/ec/xml/00/04/03/000403ectca2.xml --------------------- So I think the MS guy should reevaluate what COULD be the norm. Respectfully John Carr
