The difference in QDLS is that it is DOS based. It only supports 8.3 names.

For FTP to another architecture, any directory can do. If you have security
requirements, it may be better to build a different directory under the root
for limitiing access.

Yup. Navigator allows drag and drop operations from it. And if you are
local, you can assign a share and connect with out Navigator.
