RE: How to search WITHIN a book in the InfoCenter?

There was once a version of the libraries (somewhere around v3r6?) that had
all the books in both Reader and in Acrobat format. And the Acrobat set had
a couple indexes. These were FANTASTIC (no flame intended, just
enthusiastic) - they gave you a list of hits, just as the Reader did, and
they went across multiple books.

This index is not hard to create, AFAIK. We have Acrobat, and the index
creation is just a menu option. AFAIK, you do need the actual books on
hand, so searches across the net may not be feasible.

In addition, the use of so many soft-coded hyperlinks that break when you
download the PDF would make this hard.

When I get some time (heh) I might try generating such an index. There's a
special version of Acrobat (still free) for these, but it might be worth
it. Will let you all know.

I for one never complained about Library Reader, and I found the (old
style) Online Library to be better yet.  The library and bookshelf concepts
were wonderful; easy to use, and you could limit or expand to suit the need
of the moment.  PDFs are too big to be useful, requiring far too much
baggage.  With PDFs you are limited to a book at a time... and the
InfoCenter was somebody's bad idea that should be taken out in the back
yard and shot.  (No, not the person... the idea.  Then deal with the person
separately.)

If you're listening, IBM, I think your public is speaking.  Can you hear?

It seems that a lot of people didn't much care for the Library Reader,
and these were probably those who have experience with other PC-based
development environments.  But for my money, Library Reader was pretty
good, almost always being able to find what I was looking for.
