Here is the actual instruction manuals for all "user installed" options.

Look under the 250 manuals for the 170 stuff.

The 170 has two different methods of installing memory, depending on the
model. The manual is quite clear on this. Memory must be installed in
matched pairs but again, the manual and your model will determine all
that.
