Paul / Steve - Thanx for your quick responses...

I'll allocate another PC and give this a try, using the correct syntax!

Thanx again,

Kenneth

Subject: RE: CA/400 Silent Install

Kenneth -

"Has anyone installed CA/400 using silent install? If so, how would you
recommend that I create and distribute these files to 100's of PC's?"

Yes, I have used silent install successfully with C/A images on the IFS. It
is pretty slow compared to installing directly from CD, but it works.

"The SupportLine representative told me that I could NOT create a silent
install file unless I did it as part of an actual INSTALLATION of CA/400 on
my PC. I said "What? .. You mean that I can't create an response file
without actually installing the product?" He insisted that this is true."

I suppose you could manually create the response file but you would have to
know all of the possible options. If you review the URL below, you will
find an example response file which is quite ugly.

"setup -r -fld:C:\temp\ca400.iss"

I believe this should be "setup -r -f1C:\temp\ca400.iss"

The alternative is something like Microsoft's SMS product which has the
ability to compare a "base" disk image to the target PC's disk and resolve
the differences or Norton's Ghost which allows you to copy a directory or
disk image to another PC.

IBM C/A silent install URL:

silentinstall.htm

HTH,

Steve
