Honestly, the fallacies people labour under ....

The default length is *DCL which is the declared length or 200 bytes,
whichever is the smaller.

You can specify the length to display and debug will show that amount.
Given the following variable declaration:

        DCL &LONG_VAR *CHAR 9999

the following commmand will show the full amount:

        DSPPGMVAR PGMVAR(('&LONG_VAR' ())) LEN(9999)

Even ISDB supports the full length (as it should since it is simply a
front-end to the system debug support) with:

        Dsp (1,9999)&long_var

This has worked as far back as I can remember -- and that is quite some
time :-)
