Leif, I know you know what I mean. And you know that I know what you mean. <g> Still, if I may badger this point a little more... IBM managers are not stupid people, are they? Are there a bunch of pointy-haired bosses or Catberts running around IBM HQ? Did I not learn either in my university business courses or through work experience in general that sometimes doing something that does not generate a direct profit may, in fact, generate indirect profit down the road? This is not genius-speak fer cryin out loud! I know, I know. The key is "down the road". Most businesses nowadays are too damned shortsighted to think past the current fiscal year. (There are more grumblings that crowd my head in these current corporate state of affairs, but I have to work today, so...) - Dan Bale (I am *NOT* "Dale" http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200105/msg00281.html ) Leif Svalgaard wrote: From: Dan Bale <dbale@samsa.com> > I realize we have beaten this thing to death, but it irks me to no end that > IBM can't see any value in selling a one user, development-only system for > something less than a second mortgage. Would your development help IBM sell more boxes? Not likely, or rather: by the actions IBM show us that they don't think so. Wake up to it. The name of the game for IBM right now is to milk the userbase for as much as possible before the platform dies away. It would also help the stock price if sales can be raked up this year (Greenstreak) so that the last two quarters look good.
