There are a number of MI instructions that have been
opened up to ILE programs. EDIT is one of them. There's
a manual under the C/C++ heading for documentation, with
some OK examples. They're mostly safe to use - dangerous
activities aren't allowed here. Most are read-only
things, like MATRMD (Materialize Resource Management
Data), which can give you all kinds of information about
the machine. These are often the meanest and leanest
ways to do some things, short of true MI programming.
