We have a local station here in Chicago, WYCC (Channel 20) that does tons of educational program (it in fact bills itself as "The Education Station"). Yesterday, I happened to catch an episode of a show called "Small Business School", which basically talks to small business owners about how they run their businesses. The store being spotlighted in this particular show was one called "The Art Store", which turns out to be a pretty successful chain of art supply stores. And while I never caught the gentleman's name, he was quite a proponent of using the computer - he talked on and on about how he had no backroom inventory, all 17,000 itmes were tracked via POS barcode scanners and ordered using electronic orders - in effect, implementing JIT distribution techniques. And all of this was because of his trusty AS/400. He actually used the word "AS/400" several times, and said that without it, he couldn't have implemented his business strategy. And while the word flew over the head of the interviewer, I was thrilled to hear it said on TV. Just a little note, hopefully to brighten up someone's day. Joe
