Jetdirect & *LAN printer descriptions

Hi,

I have a few IBM 4226 line printers which I would like to attach via
ethernet. Preferably I would like to use device descriptions for better
control, rather than remote OUTQ's. If I was to attach these printers
via a HP Jetdirect 500x box (supports 3 printers), would this work?
Or are there better alternatives to the HP Jetdirect box?
