Guys, << They might do away with the term "IOP" but they will never do << away with seperate intelligent processor(s) handling disk I/O. Listen to Zeilter's presentation again. He made a rapid reference twice to integrating the zSeries MCS channel architecture into the iSeries! Today we are the "p" and the "i" on one machine, they want the "z" in this bundle also! The need full parallel channel architecture. We are basically running the same CPU's on the zSeries today. Its the disk IO subsystem that makes the mainframe the mainframe, not the processors. The mainframes channel architecture is MUCH faster than the proprietary IOP! IOP is a bus based architecture, the channels are not! Bob Cancilla Republic Indemnity Company of America (818)382-1023
