V5R1 - file locks not releasing right away?

I did some searches through the archives and did not  find anything about this, 
so here goes.

Since we upgraded to V5R1 late in 2001, we have noticed that it takes much 
longer
for locks to get cleared.  We espescially see it when a user ends their 
interactive session
improperly (they shut down the emulator session without properly signing off).  
The locks
will stay on the files they had open for several minutes.  When we go to see 
who has a file
locked in case of a problem, they are no longer signed on but their locks 
remain.

Has anyone noticed this as well on their systems?  It seems like we having
significantly more locking issues now that we are using V5R1.

Are there any settings that govern this on a system level that we could take a 
look at?
