I used to use Netscape, it worked okay. I don't think it was able to
seperate E-mail messages automatically into different folders, or
thread e-mail messages, but they may have added that since then.

The major thing that I like about pine is that it doesn't require a
graphical OS. I can telnet or ssh into my Unix PC (both at home and a
work) from anywhere in the world, and have all of my e-mail at my
fingertips.

With POP or IMAP I would need to set up each PC that I use individually to
grab the mail. Then, I might not have everything that I had saved
previously, or all of my replies, etc all on-line in each location.

Many people don't find this to be a requirement -- but I do.

I've also used Forte Agent for news reading, which is also being discussed
here. It's a good newsreader, and vastly superior than Netscape for
downloading binaries from newsgroups.

The newsreader called PAN used to be my favorite GUI newsreader... but
lately it's been so buggy that I can't stand it. I don't think PAN is
available for Windows, though. It's even more powerful than Agent, IMHO,
but also buggier :)

At any rate, I prefer E-mail to newsgroups, so I'm sticking with Pine
and reading my midrange.com stuff there.

(Note to List: Please don't reply to this telling me that I'm wrong about
my choices. They are personal preferences, if you don't agree, don't
     do it that way.)
