A fixed length pc file doesn't have any field definition - it's "flat" so
to speak.

if you create the file with fields defined already on the as/400 first,
before transfer, and then use ftp, I think you'll find that the field defs
are preserved. (i think - it works for save files anyway)

I have not tested this, but i would assume it would work.

If not, try ftping to a flat file (CRTPF - specify record length instead of
source member name) and then copying that file, FMTOPT(*NOCHK), to an
existing, fields defined, file.
