Blank field preceding link in UIM

I have created a panel group with LINK commands to another panel group
containing definitions of certain terms.  When the panel group is display, I
see a blank field preceding each LINK.  According to the manual, that is
what should happen, but I notice that IBM supplied help panels do not have
this preceding field.

That implies to me there is a way to eliminate this nuisance, but the manual
(Application Display Programming) is silent on this subject and there do not
appear to be any available compilation options.

We are on V4R1M0.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
