In ASCII, numerics are in the range of x30 - x39, uppercase letters are x41-x5A,
and lowercase letters are x61-x7A.  Many of the common symbols are below x30,
thus preceding the numerics.  A space is x20.

It most definately has a much different collating order than EBCDIC.
