Dan, We have a 3580 Ultrium (Stand Alone) tape and it really flies. We have a relativly small box (60% of 77G) and we use our own back up procedures. Basically, we used IBM's Go Save 23 (User data) for our own purposes. We had been doing a Save 22 (system data) on an 8mm only when we applied PTF's. I asked that we do a Save 21 just for testing purposes...it only added 15 minutes to the total backup time. We now do a complete system save every week. I no longer have to juggle backup times with necessary nightly processing. It is a relief to not have to worry about it. As far as configuration, I believe we just did the AutoConfig. PS. If you want to restore something, be sure to know the sequence number. If you use *SEARCH it will take forever ! That is one reason for our own procedure...we override the output to a named file and then archive to disk.
