Total CRAP! Those unexpired older copies are an integral part of your
back-up strategy and therefore your disaster recovery plan. What about the
argument that it's better still to get a current backup without destroying
an older copy?

Just suppose one file got corrupted 3 weeks ago and you've only just found
out about it. The current backup is garbage. The file you need is on the
older copy that you just overwrote.
