There are companies that sell UUCP solutions for the ISeries.  Check
google.com

I don't believe that the as/400 supports uucp.  But you could very cheaply
and easily put in a linux box to do the uucp and then transfer the files
to the as/400.  This wouldn't really gain you anything over what you are
doing now, it appears.  Other than possibly save some money depending on
what unix you are running.
