By naming the fields on the select statement you are creating a temporary view of the data base. You can also create a native LF naming only the fields you need. If the access path you define already exists, the new view will share it. Just like SQL will when creating your temporary view. Now I can change the PF without effecting the LF or the programs that use them. Gee is this just like SQL only now another object on your system to maintain and track instead of created on the fly when needed. SQL advantage, one object to maintain. DDS advantage, ?? is native I/O faster than SQL? Less overhead than creating the temporary view on the fly? Christopher K.
