I was specifically referring to data files. Yes multi-membering allows for source files, but there were many other possible implementations of source. We are limited to the current implementation of source because it is possible to write your own source generators, and changing the source implementation would break them. Worthwhile if just for that reason. A way to explain members: File members are separate files that share the rcdfmt and file description of the owning file.
