Oliver,

I've found the theory and practice to much different. We have some sites
using sna and tcp over the same line. No, they are not running sna over
TCP/IP. Quite often the SNA fails while the TCP keeps chugging along.
Can't passthru? Use telnet to fix the problem on the remote site. Small
file taking over an hour to send using SNA, and still stuck at the same
percentage? Try FTP. They did and it was done in under 5 seconds.

I suppose if you cripple your lines down to dial up speeds then SNA has
it's benefits. But at our T1 and frame relay speeds give me TCP anytime.
It's gotten to the point that I'll use telnet as a default now.

Granted it is also somewhat of a support issue. Your own version of our
'Cisco kid' may be more tcp aware than SNA. Although, he's pretty darn
good. And I'd hate to lose him. (He left us once years ago for more
money. The site of him in a suit was pretty fricking ridiculous. He came
back after a few months.)

Hello,

if you only need to connect to another AS/400, I'd stick with SNADS! You
can
run SNADS over TCP/IP -much more
reliable than FTP, IMHO.

Ol'who just hates FTP'iver
