Kenny Change your RPG program and use the current DDS created object as an external reference defining a Data Structure. Name the data structure. Do you have a CL calling the RPG program? If not make one. Create a 'flat file' in the CL to create a file with a fixed length to match the provided specifications. Do not use DDS to define this file. Clear the file beforehand if need be and call the RPG program after changing the RPG program to output to the newly named flat file specifying the record length within the file description specs. Then write the newly created data structure with, the old fashioned, output specs. This will at least eliminate the field delimited/separated problems. Now you can tackle the record separators if you have to, specifications permitting. Ken Slaugh (707) 795-1512 x118 Chouinard & Myhre, Inc. You need to tell us what the "spec" is? Comma delimited? The translate from lower to upper is easy also.
