THIS is what I was missing!  The numbers!

Our 510-2144 512 meg P30 is getting tired.  It has no "split" CPW ratings,
sporting a traditional single 111 CPW.  If I read the handbook properly, we
could replace it with an 820-2395 (370 CPW).

35 CPW interactive $36k, P10.
70 CPW interactive $64k, P20.
120 CPW interactive $116k, P20.
240 CPW interactive $191k, P20.

If I think that the bulk of my machine processing is interactive, and want
to double the existing power, I'd need to spend $191k.  If I think there's a
50/50 mix, I'd need to spend $116k.  That $75k difference is the interactive
"tax."  If we could redo our apps to run mostly in batch, we could save
$155k!  

I think I'll try to pitch that to my management here, and see what they
think.  After all, if we can put in a cheaper machine at the customer sites,
we can more readily compete with other solutions...
