I am not sure what version of client access you are using. But since you 
talk about the host file it might be an early version. Client Access used 
to ask you if you wanted to add it to the host file. The host file can be 
edited. Use Notepad. At least use it to look at the file. Make sure it is 
host with no extension, not host.sam I was told .sam meant sample. Also use 
find to look for all host files.

Now if you are using client access express. It is like Alex said in the 
registry. You can use REGEDT32 to see and change it. On my NT machine it is in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  SOFTWARE
    IBM
     Client Access Express
        Current Version
          Environments
           My AS/400 Connection

Files are out registry is in. So now you can mess up your whole PC not just 
one application.
