Re: Used AS/400's

The good news is that there are lots of places to buy used 400's.  The bad
news is that new 400's are worthless as soon as IBM replaces the model or
feature code with a better price performer.

So if you buy used, you tend to have the following negative attributes:

   You have to buy in at a higher software tier than you would otherwise
   for comparable performance.
   Ditto for maintenance, and you do not get the benefit of the one year
   warranty.
   Now in the world of RISC, IBM adds features that only work in later
   models.  For example LPAR will not run on a four way 530.  I expect IBM
   to make a number of other changes of this type shortly.

I am looking for resellers of used AS/400's.  Also, does IBM have a web
site
for refurbished AS/400's.
