Subject: A/400 as e-mail server

This is my day for questions!

I know I could use Domino, and I know there are myriad AS/400 mail
offerings, but what is to prevent me from simply configuring my AS/400 as
my mail server and using Outlook (for example) as my desktop client. I
don't need to send much (any?) mail directly from the 400 itself, no need
to send spoolfiles etc. So just why would I want to spend money on a
commercial product when I can just use the 400's POP3/SMTP capabilities.

Jon (I know just enough about e-mail to be lethal) Paris
