Al,

The line is at home - I haven't gotten a firewall yet. I only leave the
connection up while I'm actively using it, treating it just like a dial-up
(not hard, it uses Dial Up Networking (DUN), complete with the little
connection icon in the tray). If I wanted to use it in any sort of server
capacity, I would of course put up a firewall first. As it is, I just make
sure I keep up with all the security updates for Win 98 and the browsers,
and run the Internet filter, E-mail scan, and Download scan functions in
McAfee VirusScan. The modem I have is an external USB-connected unit, with
no NIC card involved - I imagine the NIC/DSL router hardware approach might
not use DUN, and hence might be harder to connect and disconnect at will.

DSL is coming to my community real soon & I have been looking at personal
firewall alternatives - currently leaning towards Norton because I have
their
protection for Virus & use for other stuff & I not see anything comparably
priced that seems better & I have seen enough horror stories about the free
stuff to steer away from it.

Is your DSL to work or home?

Did you get a personal fire wall to use with always connected to the
internet
DSL, what did you get, were you happy with it?
