Excuse me if this has been asked (I wasn't following this thread earlier) but is this printer connected to a PC via Client Access PC5250 printer emulation ?

Thanks for the suggestion.  Even with QAUTOCFG off, the device description
still changes form type *CONT to *AUTOCUT when I start the writer.

this is the problem or you have to search somewhere else.
