  • Subject: Connect to AS/400 from Advantis

I'm likely going to soon see some additional workload which will require me to
access our AS/400 from home on a temporary basis. The most likely option I'm
going to have to be able to do this is to dial up into Advantis and login to
our AS/400 from there. One of my colleagues has described his experience with
this as extrememly unreliable in terms of his ability to stay connected; he
says it's not his end of the connection that's failing because his other modem
connections work just fine. Establishing and re-establishing a connection can
be very time consuming. And the keyboard mapping apparently uses a
mainframe-like setup.

Does anybody have suggestions to improve my working environment within the
constraints of Advantis? Especially with the keyboard mapping, which I
understand is a real nightmare.

Please no suggestions of "forget Advantis, use..."; there is a solution that
will be implemented sometime early next year, but I need access now.

TIA
