Larry, isn't this the equivalent of attempting to replace the OS/400 telnet 
program.  You wouldn't do it, would you?  You would add a new program. 
 Does this problem occur with third party products as well?

  No it has a VERY annoying process that re-materializes files that you
change or delete!  For example W2K includes only a DOS like Telnet
program. Very Poor. So I wanted to dump in the one from W98 instead
(still crummy but it has logging and scroll bars). I renamed TELNET.EXE
and tried to copy the W98 version.  Sorry file exists, do you want to
replace? I said YES and by golly the resulting file was....... THE W2K
VERSION!  So I deleted it.  Two minutes later it's back! I can't make
the sucker stay gone and I can't replace it!

  So what this means is: It's tougher to break but once broken you'll
NEVER get it fixed!!!
