I could not agree more.  When our network is crashed, the green screen still
work!  They just work and work and work.  Yes I us a Win98 PC for my
programming, e-mail, etc.  I would love to be able to automate some of the
stuff on the AS400 without having to use a PC.

So why make a decision to put SOCKS config on windows only?

Leave OpsNav and CODE for those who want to use it, but dont make it
compulsory for those who dont.

So... why make windows a pre-requisite for configuring the AS400?

NB GUIs are a _good_ way of attracting those who haven't used text-screens
before. They are good for novices (I use them all the time).. OopsNav is
_good_.... but GUIs will never be as versatile as commands, and dont lend
themselves to automation - which is what I always strive for.
