Its not a 8mm 6381 tape drive is it?
I've had problems in the past with equipment checks on these that PTF's
fixed (can't remember what the numbers were - this is a couple of years ago)

The message  "System object TAP05 partially damaged" is IMHO indicating that
there's a problem with the device rather than the tape.
You could try deleting the device description, doing a slow IPL and letting
it detect the drive again - this might help if there's damage to an internal
object; or try reclaiming storage.

Just because you're using the drive daily, doesn't mean there isn't a
problem with it....
